PARK CITY AREA RECREATION //

Ski resort parking often fills up on weekends, holidays, powder days and big events. There are digital signs in several locations that notify visitors of parking lot status (limited, full, etc.). Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain and Woodward Park City each have overflow parking with free bus service.

Ski Utah provides daily snow reports for your favorite resorts, including the Powder Alert. Visit their website, follow @SkiUtah on social media or download the Ski Utah app so you know where to find The Greatest Snow on Earth.

Parking at Deer Valley is free with no reservations. There are five lots at the main Snow Park Lodge base area, including preferred parking for cars with three or more people. There are two smaller lots at the Jordanelle Gondola. New for the 2024-25 season, there is parking at Deer Valley East Village off the US-40 Mayflower exit, at the base of the resort’s terrain expansion.

Overflow parking is available everyday at Richardson Flat Park and Ride, with free bus service every 20 minutes to and from Snow Park Lodge. Several other bus routes and hotel shuttles also go to Deer Valley.

Deer Valley Resort’s X (Twitter) and Instagram accounts provide parking availability and resort information. Deer Valley also offers text alerts.

Park City Mountain has two base areas: Mountain Village off Empire Avenue in Park City and Canyons Village north of the city off SR-224.

Reservations are required to park at Mountain Village every day from Dec. 5 – April 1 between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Rates are $28 for surface lots and $46 plus fees for the garage. Parking is free from Dec. 5 – Dec. 12 or for cars with four or more occupants.

There are no reservations to park at Canyons Village. Paid parking is available at Canyons Upper Village Lot and Pendry Parking Garage. Free parking is available in the Cabriolet Lot, where visitors can park and ride the Cabriolet Lift to the base area.

Visitors can also park at several park and ride locations that offer free transportation to Mountain Village.

The ParkCityMtnAlert X (Twitter) account provides parking availability and mountain status updates.

Parking at Woodward Park City is free with no reservations. There are electric vehicle charging stations. There is one parking area at the resort, and overflow parking with a shuttle is available on peak holidays and weekends at nearby Jeremy Ranch Elementary School. Parking is not allowed on the road.

White Pine Touring offers cross county skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking and avalanche courses.

Parking is free at the White Pine Touring Nordic Center, located on Thaynes Canyon Drive off Park Avenue. Guests are also allowed to park in Hotel Park City’s garage, but roadside parking is not allowed. If you’re taking public transit, multiple bus routes stop outside the center.

Soldier Hollow Nordic Center is located outside Midway in Wasatch County. In addition to cross-country skiing, Soldier Hollow is home to the longest tubing lanes in Utah and the popular Ice Castles attraction. A 2002 Olympic venue, it continues to host competitive events, including Biathlon Jr. World Trials and Junior XC Nationals during the 2024-25 season.

Parking is plentiful and free, but be prepared for a long walk from the lot during big events. There is no public transportation.

Utah Olympic Park hosted bobsled, luge, skeleton and ski jumping events at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. It continues to serve as an elite competition and training site, and bobsled rides on the Olympic sliding track are available to the public. The park also offers guided tours and two free museums.

There is generally ample parking, at no charge, but big events may require guests to take a shuttle from a designated off-site lot.

Round Valley has 25 kilometers of cross-country skiing trails, maintained by Mountain Trails Foundation. Some trails are also open to snowshoeing or fat biking. There are no on-site equipment rentals or lessons, but trail access and parking is free. Round Valley has several trailheads; the main one is Quinn’s Trailhead near the junction of I-40 and SR-248.

Mountain Trails Foundation also grooms trails at Bonanza Flat, a popular option for fall and spring due to its higher elevation. The Transit to Trails service gives free rides between downtown Park City and Empire Pass Thursdays through Sundays; reservations are recommended and can be made here. The closest winter parking is at Mid Mountain Trailhead, one mile north of Empire Pass.

Backcountry users: Learn about avalanche conditions outside of resort boundaries and #KnowBeforeYouGo by checking the Utah Avalanche Center daily avalanche forecast.

SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL

Sundance Film Festival 2025 runs from Jan. 23 – Feb. 2 in Park City and Salt Lake City.

Sundance is the largest independent film festival in the United States, and the largest event held annually in Park City. More than 72,000 people attended in person in 2024 — that’s more than eight times Park City’s population. To manage the influx of traffic, there are several restrictions in place, including:

  • No driving or parking on Main Street
  • China Bridge Garage is open for paid parking; other municipal lots in Old Town are open for drop-offs but require a permit to park
  • No overnight parking in public lots or on streets to allow for snow removal
  • Security will be in residential areas to prevent traffic from vehicles that don’t have a Residential Access Pass
  • Some streets have adjusted traffic flow; pay attention to signs

Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation or the festival shuttles, all of which are free. Park City Transit runs increased service and some adjustments to regular routes. Free parking is available at Richardson Flat Park and Ride, with bus and shuttle service to all the venues. Park City Mountain Village and Deer Valley Resort let festival guests park in their lots from 5 p.m.–1 a.m.

Park City releases a community guide to help visitors and locals get around. For real-time text alerts during the festival, text “FILMFEST” to 888777.
